Cocky Bastard ~ Vi Keeland and Penelope Ward ~ Quick Review

From New York Times Bestselling authors Vi Keeland and Penelope Ward, comes a sexy new standalone novel. He was someone who belonged in my wildest fantasies instead of a rest stop in the middle of Nebraska. A sexy, cocky, Australian named Chance was the last person I expected to run into on my cross-country drive. When my car broke down, we made a deal. Next thing I knew, we were traveling together, spending sexually-tense nights in hotels and taking unplanned detours. My ordinary road trip turned into the adventure of a lifetime. It was all fun and games until things got intense. I wanted him, but Chance wouldn’t make a move. I thought he wanted me too, but something was holding him back. I wasn’t supposed to fall for the cocky bastard, especially when I knew we’d be going our separate ways. All good things must come to an end, right? Except our ending was one I didn’t see coming.

4 Stars - Would Recommend to a Friend

I almost feel like this was two different books.
The first part of the book is a laugh out loud road trip adventure and you can't help but fall a little bit in love with Chance and Aubrey. We start out hearing the story from Aubrey's point of view and I was right there with her in falling for Chance and his wonderful sense of humor. I struggled a little bit with Aubrey, for someone who is so educated, she does a couple of things that just made me scratch my head. I mean, who REALLY lets a guy they've exchanged just a handful of words with go on a road trip with them because he'll change a flat tire? Don't get me wrong, I loved the interactions between these two and the bonding moments they experienced on their detours, especially their time in Vegas. The time in Vegas changes their relationship and has some truly sweet, but also confusing moments.
Part 2 is two years later and is from Chance's point of view. It's definitely more of a second chance story. I was surprised by why he did what he did in Vegas, but understood it and respected it. My love affair with Chance continued; he was just so darn sweet and I loved that he never gave up. This part of the book had me warming up to Aubrey a little bit, and I could understand her reluctance to let Chance back in. I think part of me knew what would happen in the end, but the authors did a fantastic job of keeping it a surprise and making me wonder. Definitely a fun book that makes me curious to read more by both authors.
