Elizabeth's Review

4.5 Stars for the Duet

Review Copy Provided by Author

Fair warning - this book is not a stand alone! If you have not read Redemption Island, stop and read it first or Return to the Island will not work as well as it should. When I sat down to write this review, I decided that the rating really does need to be for the whole Duet because part 2 doesn’t work without part 1.
In Return to the Island, Ms. Dunbar continues to explore the idea of second chances and can a relationship with a rocky start turn into something real. She also adds the dimension of can a relationship started outside of someone's "norm" be rekindled after an absence and then flourish in the real world.
We rejoin Tack and Juliet two years after their stay on Redemption Island. Two years where they have both grown and done well, but have done so without each other for various reasons. Their re-connection is not smooth, but the feelings they have for one another jump off the page and the tension is a palpable thing. The fact that Juliet and Tack initially reconnect away from the "real" world of their every day lives adds additional complications when they try to return home.
These two were interesting characters for me because while I found myself rooting for them to make it, part of me also wondered if they were really the right person for each other and if they could put the past behind them to make a long term commitment.
I also have to confess that there were times when I didn't like Tack 2.0 and sympathized with the questions Juliet had about his character and his actions as he dealt with some of his own past issues.
With the Island Duet, Ms. Dunbar has crafted a unique story with an interesting premise and well done execution. Had this been published as one longer novel, it probably would have been a 5 star read for me. Thankfully, parts one and two have been published fairly close together, so things were still fresh. This is a duet that I would definitely recommend.

About the Author

Avid drinker of Coca-Cola, L.B. Dunbar loves the sweet things in life. Her affair with all things romantic began with her first book at the tender age of six: Goldilocks and the Three Bears. One can never forget her first! From there, the reading journey includes a deep love of fairy tales, medieval knights, regency debauchery, and alpha males. She loves a deep belly laugh and a strong hug. Occasionally, she has the energy of a Jack Russell terrier. Accused, yes, that’s the correct word, of having an over active imagination; to her benefit, such an imagination works well. Author of over a dozen novels, she’s created small town worlds, rock star mayhem, and MMA chaos. Her other duties in life include: mother to four growing children and wife to the one and only.
