In the well written and dynamic Lemon Sisters, Ms Shalvis brings us back to California coastal town of Wildstone where we get to spend time with Mindy and Brooke as they get their lives back on track.
The sisters are both interesting characters and at first glance to the outside world they have their lives together. As we meet them, the appearance of perfect finally becomes too much and we see them reconnect and start to heal the wounds that haunt them both.
I genuinely liked both Mindy and Brooke and found myself relating to both of them at different parts of the story. The idea of "nobody picks on my sister but me" rang completely true and the evolving relationship for the sisters was entertaining to watch.
Add in the love interests of Linc (for Mindy) and Garrett (for Brooke) and we get a realistic portrait of just how complicated relationships can be and the fact that even good marriages need care and attention.
Overall, the Lemon Sisters is a thoughtful looks at relationships of all kinds told with Shalvis' characteristic humor. This is the third book in the Wildstone series, but it is a complete stand alone. The connection here is community of Wildstone itself. If you have read the previous books, you will see references to places and characters that we have met previously, but reading the series is definitely not a necessity. Ms. Shalvis is a go to author for me and this book just cements that position.
