Review Round Up ~ January 24

New Releases:

Almost Just Friends (Wildstone, #4)Almost Just Friends by Jill Shalvis

My rating: 4 of 5 stars - Would Recommend to a Friend

In Almost Just Friends, Ms Shalvis brings us back to Wildstone on the California coast. This time we are with EMT Piper just as she thinks she’s headed out of town to go back to school.

The well written story that follows shows us what happens when life gets in the way of our best laid plans. We get to see Piper forced into an emotional evolution on multiple fronts.

The two younger siblings that she helped raise unexpectedly return to town and the previous dynamic doesn’t work anymore. It was a pleasure to see all three Manning siblings find their footing in a new relationship that allows them to be who they are today.

Then there is Cam - the “temporary” hot guy/neighbor who turns her world upside down. He helps Piper through the hard parts, not by doing anything for her, but by letting her see the solutions for herself. I loved watching them evolve from neighbors to friends to the potential for more.

While Piper is our true main character, I enjoyed seeing the stories of her siblings unfold as well. It felt as if Gavin’s story arc had a conclusion, but Winnie’s was just getting started. Maybe there is a book for her in the future?

Suddenly in Love (Lake Haven, #1)Suddenly in Love by Julia London

3.5 stars - Worth a Reader's Time

Paperback copy received as a gift

This was an entertaining story about finding the right person to accept you as you are - and learning to accept yourself as your are instead of how you think you should be.

Mia and Brennan are both interesting characters who meet when they are at a cross roads. It was fun watching them get to know one another and develop into something - even if they weren’t sure what that was.

Seeing both Mia and Brennan fumble through where they are in life and where they need to go made their relationship that much more touching.

I am curious about certain members of the secondary cast and look forward to reading more of the series to see if they pop up.

The Doctor Will See YouThe Doctor Will See You by Lana Brazen

My rating: 3.5 Stars - Worth a Reader's Time

This is a quick, steamy read written under a pen name by LB Dunbar.

Given the length, there isn’t the in depth character and plot development that I would normally expect from her, but it’s still fun.

I enjoyed meeting Lana and this is told entirely from her point of view. James is an interesting character and I would have been interested in seeing the experience from his point of view as well.
